Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared an emotional update on her cancer journey, posting a throwback snap which showed her hooked up to an IV in hospital, with no hair, during chemotherapy treatment. Amy also posed for an up-to-date snap in a brown silk dress at home, posing with her blonde hair swept into a chic pixie cut.
Amy wrote: “This was me during intense, tough fortnightly chemo, and this is me now feeling happier, stronger and more confident than ever. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. Almost one million people are living with or beyond breast cancer in the UK. Share your #ThisIsMeNow story and help show the true reality of breast cancer.”
She included a shout-out to cancer charity Breast Cancer Now, adding: “[They] won’t stop until there’s a future where everyone with breast cancer lives and lives well. Join me in supporting them until it’s Breast Cancer Never.”
Her friends and fans rushed to support Amy in the comments section, with Katherine Jenkins writing: “So proud of you Amy. You are truly amazing.”
Someone else gushed: “You look amazing Amy, such an inspiration.”
Amy found a lump in her right breast in 2023, and underwent a mastectomy before beginning chemotherapy. In 2024 she opted to undergo another mastectomy, but made it clear it was “not to treat a new cancer diagnosis”.
In December 2025, Amy confessed she is not sure if she’ll ever be able to have children, as she has been “put into menopause because of my hormone-fed cancer.”
She explained on Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer: “I don't know if I'll have the honour of being able to become a mum, which I desperately want to be able to.”
