Rolf Harris' former Thames-side mansion failed to sell at auction today despite its price tag being slashed from £4million to £1.95million. Originally purchased in 1980 with his wife Alwen, the mansion was left to rot after the disgraced TV personality's death in 2023. According to The Sun, bids at today's auction (March 26) began at £1.4million, but stopped at £1,520,000.
The tainted property failed to reach its reserve, which was less than the guide price. Potential buyers were told that the final bid was "very close", but the house went unsold. If it had been purchased, it would have meant a windfall for his daughter Bindi. However, the house's dark past might have meant would-be buyers were put off.
The mortgage on the property was paid off, meaning that the Berkshire mansion won't have any debts to clear once it sells.
Some of Harris' most chilling crimes were carried out at the home, and it is where he died from neck cancer in May 2023. His wife died a year later in 2024, leaving their daughter Bindi to inherit much of his £16million estate.
Harris is alleged to have sexually assaulted one of his daughter's friends at the house, who was aged between 13 and 19 during the assaults from 1968 until 1986. He is said to have performed a sex act on the teenager while his daughter was sleeping in another room.
Bindi, however, stood at her dad's side during his trial and said their "affair" didn't start until the woman was 18.
Estate agent Brian Warren, who previously valued the property, told The Mirror: “We actually looked at it and others on the same row. I originally said it was worth £2million.
“No one buying at that price would want to live in it because of the stigma and it's a mess, with all add-on extensions that Rolf Harris put on over the years. So they're looking at paying another £1.5million on top of that to rebuild it because it's on the river, which is more expensive."
