Veteran presenter Eamonn Holmes admitted that there was "real hatred" for one surprising ITV co-star before he moved to GB News. The 66-year-old was a long-standing presenter for the corporation for two decades, fronting shows like GMTV and This Morning, before leaving the corporation in 2021. Despite holding one of the most coveted jobs on the box, it wasn't all bells and whistles for the dad-of-four.
In a new interview, the broadcaster revealed that he once had a hate-filled rift with Anthea Turner, his co-host on the GMTV breakfast show from 1994 to 1996. Now, 30 years on, the pair have been able to make amends and draw a line on their off-screen feud.
Speaking to The Mirror, he revealed: "I am now best friends with Anthea Turner. There used to be real hatred between us, and then I realised that Anthea was playing a part that she had been told to do.
"She has been very successful at it. I spoke to her tonight before I came here." However, he was less forgiving of the Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, whom he once refused to interview.
He told the outlet: "I have interviewed her a number of times and she is always a complete pain in the a**." He recalled one interview where the songstress stretched out on the chaise lounge and complained about being tired.
It was at this point that the presenter took it upon himself to join her on the sofa, chuckling: "I had been up from 4am. So I lay down beside her. Someone said, 'What are you doing?' There were eruptions."
It comes after the TV star sparked concerns that he had fallen asleep live on air while hosting the GB News breakfast show alongside his co-host Ellie Costello. The Northern Ireland presenter was spotted seemingly nodding off and zoning out as they covered a local news segment.
Moments later, his head snapped up, and he refocused on his sound kit and mobile phone. Fans were quick to express their own concern online following the chat online. One user penned: "Please help Eamonn Holmes. He's obviously struggling, falling asleep this morning. Slurring his words. The guy needs medical assistance!!"
Another agreed: "Why is Eamonn Holmes basically falling asleep on air? He looks either off his face or just so tired he can't stay awake!" A third chimed in with: "Concerned Eamonn Holmes seems more slurry than usual."
