BBC star Finnian Garbutt has now entered hospice care after receiving his melanoma diagnosis in 2021. The actor, best known for his role as PC Ryan Power in Hope Street, revealed the devastating health update on social media. The 28-year-old initially discovered a lump behind his ear at the end of 2020, but assumed it was an ingrown hair. When lockdown restrictions lifted, he was able to visit his barber shop for a trim and grew worried when his barber noted that the lump had expanded "quite substantially."
But it was in 2024 that doctors declared the cancer terminal, a diagnosis which tragically came just two weeks before the birth of his daughter, Saoirse. As the star has since utilised his platform to campaign and promote awareness among other young people, on Tuesday (March 24), the father-of-one told his followers that he has officially entered hospice care.
Alongside a selfie from the hospital bed, the actor penned: "A day in bed supplied by @nihospice. Thank you that have supported me and my family. (sic) I will no longer be sharing my GoFundMe page, but it is still active in bio."
Finnian concluded: "Love you all folks."
The BBC star launched the fundraising account earlier this month, after tragically revealing: "Unfortunately. the scans have shown that the cancer has progressed rapidly in my body and I am now entering the last stages of my life."
Appealing to fans, he posted "Thank you, everyone, for the outpouring of support these last few days. I cannot believe how many people across the world have reached out and offered beautiful encouragement in this really difficult time. I am not posting this for sympathy, and do not want anyone to donate if they cannot afford to.
“All I want is my wife and little baby to have the life they deserve and I wanted to be the one that provided that, which now is unfortunately no longer possible.
Finnian added: “Any donations will go a long way in supporting my wife and baby as they navigate life without me and supporting Saoirse's future, whilst also keeping them safe and secure in our home."
At the time of writing, the fundraising page has raised £83,377 of its £90,000 goal.
