Tonight sees the launch of the long-anticipated Channel 5 drama Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards. Martin Clunes stars as the disgraced BBC presenter, who has already slammed the programme, alleging it “made no attempt” to verify its story. In real life, Huw Edwards’ downfall captured headlines since 2023 reports alleged he paid a teenager for “sordid images”.
In 2024, Edwards was charged with three counts of making indecent images of children – the legal definition of which includes downloading or receiving those images. He was sent 377 images in total, 41 of which were indecent images of children. He was given a 12-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to all charges.
In the wake of his conviction, Edwards’ wife Vicky Flind filed for divorce. The pair first tied the knot in 1993, welcoming five children together – Amos, Dan, Rebecca, Sammy and Hannah.
When reports first emerged about Edwards’ conduct, Vicky released a full statement, which read: “In light of the recent reporting regarding the 'BBC Presenter' I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.

“I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.
"Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years. The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he'll stay for the foreseeable future.”
She added: “Once well enough to do so, he intends to respond to the stories that have been published.
"To be clear Huw was first told that there were allegations being made against him last Thursday.
"In the circumstances and given Huw's condition I would like to ask that the privacy of my family and everyone else caught up in these upsetting events is respected.

"I know that Huw is deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation. We hope this statement will bring that to an end."
By October 2024, however, rumours abounded that Vicky had filed for divorce from her husband. According to court documents obtained by The Times, Edwards was living at an address in Wandsworth while his wife filed for divorce.
A source told The Sun: “Vicky had enough of Edwards a long time ago but this is the final nail in the coffin of their relationship.
“He’s put her and their family through hell, so this was inevitable. Unsurprisingly, they separated a long time ago and Edwards has been living elsewhere, but it is now official. Vicky is not talking to him and they now only communicate via lawyers.”

Vicky mostly disappeared from the public eye, but in July 2025 she was spotted at Wimbledon’s royal box alongside journalist and colleague Robert Peston.
Before the scandal, Edwards rarely commented on his personal life, but in a 2020 interview with The Guardian he did share a parenting admission.
He said: “There’s a principle that your youngest child gets a far better crack of the whip than your eldest. All your anxieties and inexperience and cluelessness as a parent are taken out on your eldest child.
“By the time you get to your youngest, in my case number five, you’re a brilliant parent. So if you could give a parent all the patience and knowledge that they would have with their second or third child or whatever to the first, that’s the one piece of advice I’d give.”
