One of Britain's most notorious female serial killers is the focus of a new documentary and you've likely never even heard of her.

Confessions of a Female Serial Killer provides a chilling glimpse into the horrifying crimes perpetrated by Joanne Dennehy, reports the Mirror.

The documentary has been made available on Prime Video and details how the mother-of-two murdered three men over a 10-day period in March 2013, before absconding.

Dennehy pursued her lethal rampage as she targeted two additional victims, who both miraculously survived the stabbing attacks.

The killer has been handed a whole life order for her offences and will never be freed.

Apart from Moors Murderer Myra Hindley and Rosemary West, Dennehy is the only other female serial killer to receive a life sentence without parole.

Born in Hertfordshire in 1982, Dennehy originated from a loving, middle-class family and there were considerable expectations for her future with ambitions of her becoming a lawyer.

Nevertheless, after becoming involved with a group of fairground workers, who visited her local town when she was a teenager, Dennehy's life would take a dramatic turn.

Dennehy began drinking and taking drugs aged 13, before departing home and starting a relationship with John Treanor, who was five years her senior.

The couple, who remained together for over a decade, experienced periods of homelessness, before they secured a flat and she learnt she was expecting her first child at the age of 17. During her pregnancy, Dennehy abstained from alcohol and substance misuse, but soon after the birth of her first daughter, she relapsed into addiction.

Her former partner Treanor revealed in the documentary that he was the primary caregiver for their child, causing significant tension in their relationship.

Dennehy would later find herself incarcerated for a violent crime and sectioned, before being diagnosed with a severe personality disorder.

Forensic psychologist Dr Helen Hart commented in the documentary: "Joanne was diagnosed with antisocial psychopathic personality disorder.

"People diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder don't care about society's rules."

Upon her release, Treanor decided to give their relationship another go.

However, it wasn't long before Dennehy became pregnant again, this time with the couple's second child.

For a while, Dennehy and Treanor stayed together, until her addiction and unpredictable behaviour forced him to take the children and leave.

She then embarked on an affair with her landlord Kevin Lee, even acting as his enforcer when collecting rent from tenants.

Lee would eventually become one of Dennehy's victims, along with Lukasz Slaboszewski and John Chapman, whom she fatally stabbed before disposing of their bodies.

After committing her crimes in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Dennehy fled with her friend Gary Stretch.

She boasted about being the contemporary equivalent of infamous criminals Bonnie and Clyde.

Stretch and Dennehy journeyed to Norfolk before travelling through Worcester to Herefordshire.

In Hereford, she targeted two unsuspecting dog walkers as they cruised through the streets searching for fresh victims.

Dennehy stated she was seeking specifically men and confirmed she didn't want to kill a woman, and especially if the woman had children.

She assaulted dog walkers Robin Bereza and John Rogers, whom she left for dead but both of whom would survive the violent attacks.

She was ultimately arrested in Hereford after two days on the run and sentenced the following year in 2014.
