Rachel Reeves is as transparent as a cheap roll of cling film. She reckons the answer to our flatlining economy – which she caused – is closer ties to the EU. And there’s a very good reason she’s saying that. It’s because she wants someone, somewhere else to make all the big decisions about Britain and then when it all goes wrong, she can say in that irritating adenoidal voice of hers: “Not my fault, guv.”

Wrecker Reeves has spent the last year blaming Brexit for each and every one of her failures. Since day one in the job, she’s always sought to pin the blame for her incompetence, her disastrous mistakes and her cack handed management of the economy on everyone else – but herself. At a finance lecture this week (the very idea that Rachel from Customer Accounts can deliver a lecture on finance is beyond farce) she’s expected to say: “We can shape our own future.”

Well, actually, no we can’t – not if we’re cuddling up to, and having closer ties with Europe. Doesn’t she understand that closer ties with the EU means we will have no say in our future? And that’s precisely why a majority of British people voted to ditch the EU back in 2016. We wanted to be free of a bunch of unelected bureaucrats who didn’t give a stuff about the British people.

They just wanted our money and to control us and Reeves and Starmer are now busting a gut to give it to them again. That’s despite the fact they try to humiliate us and score political points at every turn to “punish” us for daring to leave. But still Reeves is desperate to go running back into their arms because she sees the grand plan she had for Britain has failed miserably and she has nowhere to go.

Her capitulation to the EU is happening for no other reason than she and Starmer are out of their depth and have no idea how to run a country. So, they want to go back to the bad old days and let themselves – and us – be ruled over and bullied by people who have even less idea than they do.

How many times in the past two years has Reeves boasted about her plan to revive our flatlining economy – which she destroyed? How many times have we seen her humiliated, demeaned and discredited because of her catastrophic decisions? Britain saw zero growth in January and that’s 100% down to her kamikaze decisions.

So her solution to all that is to shackle us, yet again, to the EU. Which of all the stupid decisions she’s made is one of THE most stupid because she must surely have noticed that, as piddling as Britain’s growth has been, it’s still stronger and better than EU economies like France and Germany. And that trend is expected to continue into 2026.

So how are we going to grow faster and stronger with a bloc that’s growing more slowly than we are?

Since she came to power this wet excuse for a chancellor has lied about the black hole in order to justify raising taxes. She’s betrayed our pensioners by snatching their winter fuel allowance. She’s stuffed up the farmers – the people who work all hours to put food on our tables.

Her catastrophic decision to hike National Insurance has forced thousands of businesses to go to the wall. Unemployment is at 5.3%, the highest in a decade. Inflation is higher than in any country in the G7 (she’s conveniently blaming the war in Iran for that). The hospitality industry is teetering on the brink, and all Wrecker can do is blame Brexit and beg the EU to take us back.

The one useful thing she could do right now would be to axe the rise in fuel duty that’s coming in September. The Government makes a massive 38p profit on every litre of fuel bought. So why can’t it sacrifice a bit of that to save the livelihoods of millions of hard-working Brits who are going to be hit hard by the spiralling oil crisis.

Had Reeves ever listened to people who actually understand the economy (what she knows about it could be written on the back of a fag packet) she’d have had a fighting chance of getting it right. But she ignored them – because Rachel from Accounts knows best.

Well, it turns out she doesn’t. She knows nothing, and she’s constantly exposed for knowing nothing, yet it’s the British people who are paying the price for her incompetence. Even at this lecture she’s boasting the government is investing £2.5billion in AI – which absolutely no-one gives a toss about at the moment. All they care about is paying their bills and putting food on the table. So why isn’t she addressing that?

And despite all her humiliations, all her failures Reeves still has the brass neck to publicly insist her plan is working when everyone here – and around the world – can see that it’s not. But it’s her creepy self-delusion that’s terrifying. Red Ed Miliband has it too. Both believe that what they’re doing is absolutely right even when the evidence shows the polar opposite. But still, they won’t accept it. Which is why they’re both so dangerous.

But of course, Reeves shrugs off all the criticism saying it's only coming her way because she’s a woman. No. She’s getting it in the neck because she is without doubt the worst chancellor in living memory – bar none! In any normal government she’d have been kicked to the political curb months ago. But she’s part of a government that is jam packed with numpties and failures so there’s no-one with even half a brain to replace her.

In a recent interview she said people have always under-estimated her. Well, actually, no we haven’t. We saw she was hopeless even before Labour got into power. In that same interview she said: “When I was growing up, I was sick and tired of being told that people from ordinary backgrounds weren’t capable of doing well.”

Yeah, well Reeves has proved beyond doubt that it doesn’t matter what class people come from. If they're delusional, ego maniacs (like she is) they’re destined to cock it up.
