Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer rank amongst Britain's most cherished presenting partnerships - but what do we actually know about their bond?

Primarily recognised for their contributions to property programmes such as Location, Location, Location and Love It Or List It, the duo have been collaborating for 26 years.

It's reasonable to suggest Kirstie and Phil have captured the hearts of countless admirers through their on-screen rapport and sibling-style banter. Whilst their connection remains platonic, the television presenting couple have previously acknowledged they're frequently assumed to be married.

Therefore, we're examining the inside story of Kirstie and Phil's 26-year-long endearing friendship, reports the Mirror.

Kirstie and Phil's initial encounter

Kirstie and Phil crossed paths for the first time in 2000 during an audition for the inaugural series of the Channel 4 property programme Location, Location, Location. According to Kirstie, she left Phil feeling "nervous" during their initial meeting.

She revealed to TV Times magazine: "I made him nervous! I've never understood why people are scared of me. The question most people ask me is 'Is Phil as nice as he seems?'".

Phil similarly remembered encountering her at the programme's audition. He stated: "We were both working as property finders, me in south-west London and Kirstie in west London, when we were approached to make 'Location'.

"I thought she was great fun- and a bit mad! I had massive respect for her professional opinion from day one."

Why Phil was absent from Kirstie's wedding

It's evident that Kirstie and Phil share a deep bond, as in 2025, Phil confessed to The Telegraph: "I put Kirstie among the most important people in my life." Kirstie echoed his sentiments: "We'll never be apart. I can't imagine a day when he and I go more than a month without seeing each other."

However, despite their close friendship, Phil didn't attend Kirstie's wedding to Ben Anderson in 2025. It was later disclosed that the wedding was so impromptu that key guests - including Phil - were unable to make it.

She revealed to MailOnline: "We had with us a small group of close friends and family who only heard about the wedding on Monday."

Kirstie also detailed how aspects of the wedding such as the flowers, catering, lighting, and the order of service were all managed by individuals she had collaborated with over the years, who kept everything under wraps.

Phil and Kirstie's dating rumours

From the get-go, viewers fell in love with Phil and Kirstie's on-screen chemistry - which has inevitably sparked speculation about whether they were ever more than just friends.

In 2007, Kirstie stated: "I still know Phil better than I know Ben because Phil and I have spent more time together. We'll never be apart. I can't imagine a day when he and I go more than a month without seeing each other."

She also responded to allegations that she and Phil had shared a kiss, making a candid confession about her feelings towards her co-star. Speaking to the Express, she said: "I love Phil but I'm not attracted to him and I know he'd say the same about me. A lot of people think we've had the odd sneaky snog, which just isn't true."

Phil, on the other hand, previously commented on the romance speculation, stating: "The press were always asking, are we are couple, were we going to get married – it was all good fun. People weren't used to seeing presenters having platonic, affectionate relationships on TV."

Kirstie and Phil's Love It Or List It airs on Channel 4 at 8:00pm
