A BRITISH holidaymaker has gone missing in Tenerife hours after flying to the island with his wife and going out for an early-morning walk.

His disappearance has been reported to police and his family are said to be very “worried” saying it is totally out of character for him. The missing man, identified so far only by his first name of Michael, is in his early sixties and was staying in an apartment in the tourist resort of Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife.

A Facebook group dedicated to giving assistance for people reported as missing in Tenerife said last night in a message in English and Spanish about the disappearance: “Missing in Los Cristianos in an all-blue outfit.

"Michael is in his early sixties and had gone out for an early morning walk today, Sunday 15th March at around 8am. He and his wife had just arrived on Saturday night and are staying in an apartment close to La Montañita, in Los Cristianos.

“He has no phone or passport with him and is carrying little, if any money. This has been reported to the police in Tenerife who have already checked hospitals. The family is understandably worried as this is totally out of character for him.” The message added: “He is from the UK and speaks English.”

Anyone with any information about the missing man is being asked to email enquiries@missingpersonstenerife.com. British expats and other well-wishers responded last night by offering their support. One said: “I hope he’s found safe and well.”

Carol Burton added: “Hope he’s found soon, I know you’ve said that hospitals have been checked but worth checking again in case he’s had a fall and bumped his head and is concussed and can’t remember anything, worrying time for you all.”

Deborah Clarke-Topper, who runs Missing Persons Tenerife, urged people: “As a matter of safety, please don't go hunting in ravines, or put yourself at risk, just keep an eye out in case you happen to see him sitting somewhere or wandering about.”

On February 6 Susan Hornsby, 76, from Dorset, disappeared during a trip to Tenerife with her husband Peter.

An appeal went out and she was airlifted to hospital after dramatically being found in a ravine in Tenerife nearly 30 hours after she vanished during a three-hour hike. Louise Bakewell who had led the appeal said afterwards thanking well-wishers for their concern: “Thank you so much for all your help and advice. What a wonderful group of people - my faith in humanity well and truly restored. Just to clarify- she went off on a walk alone and then became unwell. She did not have find my iPhone enabled on her phone- please tell your friends and relatives to always enable this if they can, just to be safe.”

On February 11 British holidaymaker Iain Stanley, 79, vanished in Nerja on the eastern Costa del Sol after leaving an apartment near the town’s Perla Marina hotel. Tragically he was found dead after a week-long police search of the area.
