An investigation has been launched following a "serious assault" in a UK town as police appeal for witnesses to come forward. Kent Police were called to reports of a man suffering injuries consistent with stab wounds in Steven Close, Chatham, on March 12.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and treated the man before taking him to hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition. Anyone with information has been urged to contact the force on 01634 792209 quoting reference 46/40192/26, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

Kent Police said: "Detectives have launched an investigation following a serious assault in Chatham and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"Kent Police was called at 10.35pm on Thursday 12 March 2026 to reports of a man suffering injuries consistent with stab wounds in Steven Close.

"Officers attended alongside colleagues from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, who treated the man before conveying him to a local hospital. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

"Investigators identified a private property in nearby Gordon Road as the scene where the alleged incident took place and forensics are currently attending the location.
