A man who brutally murdered his wife and buried her in the garden has been sentenced to life behind bars. Paria Veisi's remains were uncovered in a crude grave in the rear garden of her husband Alireza Askari's property, just under two weeks after she ended their marriage.

Her death was due a fatal knife attack to her neck and upper chest. Ms Veisi, 37, was found dead at the Cardiff residence on April 15 last year after worried relatives reported her disappearance. The Iranian-born woman was last spotted four days prior, departing her Canton workplace behind the wheel of a black Mercedes. Askari, 42, of Foster Drive in Penylan, initially entered guilty pleas solely to manslaughter and preventing lawful and decent burial he then subsequently admitted to murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years. This was reduced to 25 years and 37 days, to take into account the time Askari has spent on remand. If released, the defendant will be on licence for the rest of his life.

His auntie, Maryam Delavary, 48, of White City in London, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and has been sentenced to five years and six months imprisonment.

The term she has spent on remand will be deducted from the sentence, of which she will spend 40% in custody.
