Morrisons is giving the nation’s mothers a sweet reason to smile this Mother’s Day, offering a free slice of cake at its 343 in-store cafés on Saturday and Sunday. Mothers can choose from a variety of sweet treats, including a classic Victoria Sponge Cake, a Sticky Toffee Cake with Pecans, a Panettone Bread & Butter Pudding, alongside a variety of other favourites. Best of all, no purchase is required to enjoy the treat.
For families looking to make the occasion even more special, Morrisons Cafés are also offering an Afternoon Tea for two at £15. The Afternoon Tea includes two fruit scones served with Rodda’s clotted cream and Tiptree strawberry jam, a lemon muffin, a blueberry muffin, a salted caramel brownie, and a selection of sandwiches with meaty or vegetarian options, all accompanied by tea for two.
Matt Khan, senior café trader at Morrisons, said: “Mother’s Day is all about celebrating the amazing mums and mother figures in our lives.
"We know families are always looking for ways to make special memories without overspending, so we’re delighted to offer mums a well-deserved free slice of cake in our Cafés this weekend.”
Families can also take advantage of the Kids Eat Free offer which allows children under 16 to enjoy a Birds Eye meal for free with any adult meal over £5.
Options include Chicken Dippers, Fish Fingers, Veggie Sausages, or Mac & Cheese with Garlic Bread, and a drink included in the offer.
In March last year the supermarket confirmed it would shut 52 of its in‑store cafés across the UK, 17 Morrisons Daily convenience stores, all 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters, and four pharmacies, as part of a broader cost‑saving and operational review.
As of March 2025, David Ellison is the new managing director of Cafés at Morrisons. He previously served as COO at Deep Blue Restaurants/Harry Ramsden's.
The retailer has invested in its remaining café sites, refreshing menus and introducing new promotions.
Morrisons is the UK’s fifth-largest supermarket chain, with a history spanning 127 years. It all began in 1899, when William Morrison opened an egg and butter stall at Rawson Market in Bradford.
