An Essex curtain manufacturer that served homes and businesses across the county for more than two decades has gone into liquidation after 25 years of trading. Sudbury Curtain Contracts Limited, which operated as Sudbury Curtain Workroom, has been placed into creditors’ voluntary liquidation.
The company was based at Severalls Business Park in Colchester, a city often described as Britain’s oldest town thanks to its Roman roots stretching back nearly 2,000 years. Records published in The London Gazette show that joint liquidators were appointed on February 25, 2026, with the notice formally announced on March 2.
Sudbury Curtain Workroom specialised in producing made-to-measure curtains and blinds for both private and commercial customers across Essex and beyond.
Over the years the business supplied a wide range of clients, including show homes, hotels and banks, as well as schools, retailers, conference centres and property developers.
The company operated as a micro-entity, meaning it had fewer than 10 employees and a turnover and balance sheet both below £632,000.
According to company filings, the firm was incorporated on October 30, 2001.
Its most recent accounts covered the period up to January 31, 2025, while the next set of financial statements for the year ending January 31, 2026 were due to be submitted by October 31 this year.

The company’s active directors were listed as Juliana Galvin, of Boxford near Sudbury in Suffolk, and Elizabeth Meston, of Mistley in Manningtree, Essex, who also served as company secretary.
Colchester was once the Roman capital of Britain, known as Camulodunum, and has been continuously inhabited since at least the first century AD.
Today the city blends its ancient past with modern industry and commerce, making the loss of a small but established local manufacturer another reminder of the pressures facing independent businesses across the country.
