Viewers tuning in to GB News this morning watched as veteran presenter Eamonn Holmes appeared to drift off during a live interview — prompting fresh concern about his ongoing health battle. The 66-year-old broadcaster was speaking with Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Darren Jones MP when he was seen fiddling with his microphone pack before seemingly zoning out with his eyes closed. After several seconds, he lifted his head, continued adjusting his sound equipment and briefly checked his phone while his co-host Ellie Costello carried on questioning the minister.

The awkward moment came just days after Eamonn opened up about what he has described as a “horrendous” period of illness. Insiders at the channel said the incident had not gone unnoticed behind the scenes. One source claimed: “It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Eamonn has been struggling a lot more lately. Today, he was falling asleep on air and slurring his words. There were lots of messages coming in about it.”

Concern was echoed by viewers, many of whom took to social media as the programme aired.

One wrote: “Please help Eamonn Holmes. He’s obviously struggling, falling asleep this morning. Slurring his words. The guy needs medical assistance!!”

Another asked: “Is Eamonn Holmes ok? Should someone not take him off air and get him seen to? He seems unwell.”

A third said: “I’m the first to criticise Eamonn Holmes but l feel he’s obviously increased his medication and should not be presenting this morning. Difficult situation l appreciate.”

Others described the moment as uncomfortable to watch. One viewer posted: “Why is Eamonn Holmes basically falling asleep on air? He looks either off his face or just so tired he can’t stay awake! It’s actually quite disturbing to watch! Poor Ellie next to him! Get him off air!”

Another added bluntly: “Help Eamonn Holmes. The man is falling asleep on GB News this morning!! This is quite cruel.”

One further comment read: “Concerned Eamonn Holmes seems more slurry than usual.”

Eamonn has been living with chronic pain since 2021 following a dislocated pelvis that led to three slipped discs.

His recovery has been complicated by further injuries, including a fall down the stairs at his home in Weybridge while recuperating from surgery, which left him with a broken shoulder.

After multiple operations in 2023, he has relied on a wheelchair and daily care support.

Speaking last week on the Session 7 podcast, Eamonn laid bare the toll the condition has taken on his life. He said: “I’m sick. I’m in a wheelchair. That’s been horrendous to deal with for two years.

“Certainly I don’t think TV wants to know you when, I mean there’s nothing – you and I are talking and no one can tell there’s anything wrong, but I can’t get up.”

He added that despite his limitations, he remains determined to keep working: “I need help getting out of this chair. I have to have carers throughout the day but once I’m sitting down… I can do everything.”
