Country Joe McDonald has sadly died aged 84. The singer, who was the frontman of 1960s group Country Joe and the Fish, died due to complications from Parkinson's. He died in Berkeley, California, after his battle with the disease, it was confirmed by a source close to his wife. The singer was best known for the anti-Vietnam War anthem, I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die. The band grew to national fame after his solo performance of the song at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.

The band issued an announcement following Joe's passing as they wrote: "We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Country Joe McDonald, who died yesterday, March 7th, at the age of 84, in Berkeley, California. He was surrounded by family." The group had an impressive career, while McDonald also produced 40 solo albums.

They were also known for The Fish Cheer, which spelled out the F-word, which went down in history with their fans as a memorable moment. The group also included guitarist Barry 'The Fish' Melton, keyboardist David Cohen, drummer Gary 'Chicken' Hirsh, and bassist Bruce Barthol.

They performed at multiple iconic venues including the Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom. Their most famous hit, I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die charted well and quickly became their top hit, and their politically-focused songs continued to influence audiences throughout.

While they eventually disbanded, McDonald continued to focus on music and activism and worked with the likes of Vietnam Veterans Against the War and Swords to Plowshares.
