Davey claimed a state visit from the King would be seen as a "diplomatic coup for President Trump and should not be given to someone who insults and damages our country".

She stated that there will be people advising Keir Starmer not to "reward Donald Trump for the way he's been talking about the UK", but noted that cancelling the state visit would also "add oil to the flames". However, she noted that Starmer is likely keen to smooth things over and get things back to normal.

It comes as a Washington source told GB News that the visit was already planned to be a short three-day operation, but it was being worked on before the US' recent conflict.
