Escape to the Chateau star Dick Strawbridge penned a message to his friend and former co-star who marked a special milestone with his wife. Steve, who is referred to as "Dick's Builder mate", often featured on the Channel 4 renovation programme as his trusted local handyman. In a candid update, Steve shared he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago, but has fortunately made a full recovery in a heartwarming post. He thanked Dick and his wife Angela Strawbridge for their support.

Sharing a photo alongside his wife the pair celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 6. Steve wrote: "It’s our 50th wedding anniversary and I couldn’t have shared it with anyone better, I did have blip 3 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer but I got it sorted now everything is great, I have to say a big thank you to Dick and Angela for keeping me working."

In view of his 90,000 followers, Dick shared the post which he accompanied with a heartfelt message.

The Escape to the Chateau star wrote: "Well done you two!! Sending soppy kisses as always xx."

Steve was frequently seen on camera helping Dick with complex, hands-on construction tasks, bringing expertise as a builder and is still helping part-time at the Chateau.

In 2015, Angel and Dick found a derelict 150-year-old chateau in France with 45 rooms, a moat, 12 acres of land and outbuildings, devoid of electricity, sewage or running water and they bought it.

The couple, who wed that same year, filmed their adventures as they restored the building across nine seasons on their show.

Escape to the Chateau fans were disappointed after it was announced that the Channel 4 show had been cancelled in 2022.

The couple confirmed they “parted ways” with Channel 4 after seven years of their hugely popular television series.

Channel 4 shared a statement at the time about severing ties with the Strawbridges after an independent investigation into their behavior over alleged claims of "bullying" and had clashed with producers.

Dick and Angel later said they felt the show reached a natural conclusion.
