The Mexican-American singer was tragically murdered on March, 31, 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques.
The 23-year-old Tejano singer was gunned down inside a motel room in Corpus Christi, Texas, by Yolanda, who had been accused of embezzling money from the Grammy award-winning star.
A recently released autopsy report from last year revealed new details about her murder - three decades on from Selena's murder. Her death, which had been ruled a homicide by the coroner’s report, was caused by a bullet wound that had entered through her shoulder.
Coroner Lloyd White wrote in the report that her death was “a result of an exsanguinating internal and external hemorrhage, in other words massive bleeding, due to a perforating gunshot wound of the [chest].”
During the trial, Yolanda claimed the shooting was accidental, but was found guilty in October 1995. She was sentenced to life in prison, with the potential of parole. It was denied to the 65-year-old inmate in March 2025 after she applied for parole in December.
