Donald Trump has suggested Sir Keir Starmer is pandering to Muslim voters by not backing the war against Iran. A row has erupted after Sir Keir initially refused to allow UK military bases to be used by the US.
Mr Trump warned that he never thought he would see the “most solid of all” special relationship between Britain and America at risk. He added that things were “not like it used to be” and described the breakdown as “very sad".
He told The Sun: “It’s very sad to see that the relationship is obviously not what it was.”
Asked about accusations that Sir Keir is pandering to Muslim voters for political reasons, the US President added: “it could be.”
Mr Trump admitted that Sir Keir “has got his own difficulties", days after Labour was defeated in a crunch by-election amid accusations of sectarian politics and family voting.
Pressed what advice he would give Sir Keir, Mr Trump: “Two very simple things.
“Open up the North Sea. Immediately. Your energy prices are through the roof.
“And stop people from coming in from foreign lands who hate you.
“Open up the North Sea and stop people from pouring into his country from faraway lands.”
