This Morning's former golden couple, Ruth Langsford, 65, and Eamonn Holmes, 66, announced they were getting divorced in May 2024 after she reportedly found messages exchanged with another woman. The pair, who share son Jack, 23, together separated after nearly three decades together, and Eamonn is now with 44-year-old family support worker Katie Alexander while Ruth is reportedly single.

It's been almost two years since the couple announced they were separating, and Ruth appeared on Rylan Clark's BBC Radio 2 show to open up about ongoing counselling following the split. "I've had counselling," Ruth explained to Rylan, who she used to work on This Morning with, adding: "Best thing I ever did." Rylan told listeners how much counselling had changed his friend Ruth's outlook on "all the situations" she's been through.

Ruth, who appears on Loose Women, revealed it was a friend of hers who encouraged her to try counselling as it had helped her through a "very difficult divorce".

Ruth admitted she initially told her pal: "I don't need to see a counsellor to tell me I'm sad, you know. She was like, 'Honestly, it's so much more than that.'

"Anyway, she pecked my head for so long, eventually I said yes to shut her up, to be honest. I went, 'Fine, OK,' and it's the best thing I ever did."

The ITV star then shared that she is still attending sessions and explained in more detail why she continues to attend.

"With friends, they are always on your side, really," she confessed. "They will stand by you with whatever decisions you make, or however you are feeling. They will hold you up. A counsellor is very different, you know. They look at the bigger picture - they don't know you. And they never tell you what to do.

"She's never told me what to do, she's just guided me to think in different ways about things."

Ruth added: "And lots of people have picked up on this saying, which she said to me, which was, 'Find your light.'"

Sharing a heartbreaking four-word admission about her break-up from Eamonn, Ruth told viewers: "Everything felt so dark. And she said, 'Use that energy that you are feeling, anger and sadness. Try to bring that energy here and find your light."

The BBC interview was shared on social media, and hundreds of fans rallied behind Ruth. One person penned in the comments section: "Such a wonderfully strong, inspiring woman."

Another added: "Love this woman soooo much. I've been through the same! It's hard! Keep going, gorgeous girl." A third echoed: "That was so lovely to them both, just what they both needed. Ruth is so right."
