The Foreign Office is reportedly planning a major evacuation for Brits in the Middle East. Hundreds of thousands of British nationals are currently at risk as Iran retaliates after US and Israel strikes.

Yesterday morning, strikes began in Tehran in an attempt to change the regime, with the Israeli spy agency, Mossad, calling for an uprising on X (formerly Twitter). The supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a strike on his compound, with state media confirming it hours later.

Preliminary figures are that 201 are dead and 747 have been injured, including 153 killed in a strike on a school. Now, Iran is retaliating with strikes on Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE. Officials at the Foreign Office are believed to be working on an emergency evacuation plan in case airspace across the Middle East remains closed. Brits are told to stay where they are and follow instructions of local authorities while monitoring Foreign Office advice.

Those in Bahrain, Israel, Palestine, Qatar and the UAE have been told to register their location with the Foreign Office online. Over 76,000 Brits, mostly in the UAE, have already registered their location.

It is believed to be the largest-scale use of the “register your presence” scheme, which has been used during international crises before, but never for this amount of people.

One possibility could be evacuation by road to neighbouring countries where the airspace remains open, such as Saudi Arabia.

The UAE has said that 167 ballistic missiles and 541 drones had been launched from Iran towards the country. Three people have been killed and 58 injured.

Israel has reported that Iranian missiles have killed nine people, while the US said three American military personnel had been killed and five others severely wounded.

It is understood that no British nationals have been killed or injured so far in the conflict. Defence secretary John Healey said 300 troops were within “a few hundred yards” of an Iranian strike on a base in Bahrain.
