Gordon Ramsay has shared his thoughts on daughter Tilly Ramsay's emerging culinary career - admitting he found one of her decisions was "very awkward". In 2022, the former Strictly Come Dancing participant revealed she would be attending culinary school to pursue her father's profession.

Yet, instead of learning under Gordon himself, Tilly, 24, opted to enrol at the renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School in East Cork.

Looking back on her choice, the 59-year-old confessed it was "painful" to watch her depart, but stated he couldn't be more proud of her accomplishments.

Speaking on Scott Mills' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, the presenter highlighted one of his treasured family scenes from the chef's Netflix programme Being Gordon Ramsay.

The programme tracks Gordon backstage as he balances family life and his most ambitious project to date, the launch of five dining ventures in one of London's loftiest structures, 22 Bishopsgate.

Discussing one of the sequences he appreciated, Scott remarked: "The bit when Tilly gets her chef whites is so lovely."

Gordon responded: "Don't, honestly, that was a tough one. First of all, she went off to Ballymaloe, so that was a big kick in the goolies, the fact that she doesn't want to be trained by her dad. Very awkward.

"And then you sort of say goodbye to her and it was painful."

While he wasn't delighted that she selected alternative training, Gordon expressed nothing but admiration for everything Tilly has achieved thus far.

"Tilly's an incredible young chef. I know how notorious this industry is, but honestly, kudos to her," he added.

"We need more females. I think of Angela Hartnett, Clare Smyth, so fingers crossed, maybe in 10 or 15 years' time Tils may be up there. But she's got a journey and a half to go," he added.

Like any budding chef under Gordon's scrutiny, Tilly doesn't escape his assessment.

"I've tasted her pancakes and they're okay," Gordon quipped. "Last night I had chicken pie, honestly, it was delicious, with mashed potato and peas. That was cooked by Tilly. It was delicious."

Yet he couldn't help but provide some gentle criticism.

"It did need a touch more seasoning and a touch more butter in the mash. I did detect a few lumps," he added.

While Tilly only commenced formal culinary education in 2024, she has already accumulated over ten years of kitchen experience.

Between 2015 and 2019, she presented the CBBC programme Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch.

She's subsequently featured as a mentor on MasterChef Junior and, most recently, debuted her own Prime Video cookery programme, Dish It Out, where she prepares dishes using mystery ingredients alongside visiting chefs.
