John Cleese has shared his fears that the Labour government will “categorise him as a terrorist" following new updates to the terrorist ideologies policy. On Tuesday (February 17), the Monty Python star took to X – formerly Twitter – to share his concerns about the latest government updates on terrorism. Labour came under fire today after it announced its 15th U-turn since Starmer came into power, abandoning their plans to delay elections across 30 councils.
Sharing a screen grab taken from the government website, it revealed that an extreme right-wing terrorism category had been added to the site, with cultural nationalism highlighted in yellow. It is defined as "'Western culture' is under threat from mass migration and a lack of integration by certain ethnic and cultural groups". He captioned the post: "As I am a Islamosceptic, I’m now worried that the Labour government may categorise me as a terrorist. To think I once supported them..." The government website defines extreme right-wing terrorism as “the active or vocal support of ideologies that advocate discrimination or violence against minority groups.”
It went on to share the three most common sub-categories of extreme right-wing terrorist ideologies, which included cultural nationalism, white/ethno-nationalism, and white supremacism.
It didn’t take long before fans flocked to the comments to share their concerns online, with one user posting: “It’s basically a communist tactic of smearing their legitimate political rivals.”
Another quipped: “Well, wouldn’t it be interesting if they try and arrest you for hurtful posts! You should ramp up your hurtful posting and see if they try. Imagine how that would look on the world stage! It would surely be the end of Starmer.”
A third chimed in with: “It’s a scary time in Britain, John. Speak about the recurring pattern you see,” while a fourth added: “The Life of Brian becomes more real by the day.”
Meanwhile, another countered: “No, you’re safe because Western culture is not under threat at all. You don’t need to protect culture; it’s culture that protects you. Also, it’s not whatsoever a lack of integration, but rather its factual, objective, incompatibilities. You’re good!”
He commented: "Absolutely disgraceful. Why should we be denied this important information? Does anyone know why they are acting contrary to the best instincts of the British people?"
