A dad 'shot at his wife and three kids' in the stands of a school hockey tournament, with two killed, according to reports.
A little girl is believed to be one of the deceased following the tragedy at the Pawtucket, Rhode Island arena.
The NY Post now reports that a father fired the gun at his own family after investigators earlier said it was a targeted shooting.
Three others are in critical condition at a hospital after the gunshots were fired at Lynch Arena at around 2.30pm. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves confirmed that the suspect was also dead at the scene, reportedly of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Families were gathered at the arena to watch several local schools in hockey matches at the time of the horrific incident. A livestream of the match captured the moment terrified spectators and players dove to the floor and took cover as 11 gunshots rang through the stands.
In upsetting videos shared online players can be seen squeezing out of the box and ditching their skates with others jumping over the rink's barrier and rushing to the changing room.
It has been alleged that the father shot his wife and three children before turning the gun towards himself. A witness has been branded a hero after disarming the alleged gunman however according to spectators the man had another weapon.
The police are yet to have confirmed the victims' relationship to the suspected gunman.
One victim, thought to be a young girl, was found dead inside the arena with the shooter. Another person died at the hospital, and the three remaining victims are all in critical condition, Goncalves said.
Mayor Don Grebien called the shooting “tragic” but “an isolated incident.”
Officials from Coventry Public Schools and Providence Country Day have confirmed all their student athletes have been accounted for.
St. Raphael Academy told WJAR that they “have been told none of our [school] family was injured” in the shooting.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said in a post on X: "We are actively monitoring the shooting at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. I just spoke with Mayor Grebien as well as @RIStatePolice who are working with local law enforcement. I am praying for Pawtucket and everyone involved."
