Oscar winning actor Robert Duvall, who starred in iconic films such as The Godfather (1972) and Apocalypse Now (1979), died on Sunday February 15 at age 95. The news was confirmed by the actor's wife, Luciana in a statement on Facebook on Monday February 16. "Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.
"To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind," she wrote.
Tributes flooded in for the star as the tragic news broke. "Prayers for his family Robert will live on in his fabulous movies," one fan wrote on Facebook.
"My favorite actor of all time. I think he's better than Brando. Watch the speech he gives at the end of *Get Low* and tell me he's not the best actor to ever live. Watch *The Apostle*," another penned.
A third chimed in: "One of my favorite actors of all time. I believe his first part was in the brilliant To Kill a Mockingbird. He will be missed." A fourth added: "So sorry to read this. He was definitely one of the greats. Condolences to his family. May he RIP."
A fifth shared: "I fell in love with him when I first seen him inTo Kill A Mocking bird... and fell even more in love with him in Lonesome Dove. Great actor, gonna be missed by all." Meanwhile a sixth cried: "Oh no such a great actor a true legend of cinema. Rest in peace Robert Duval thank you for so many years of entertainment."
