Latest weather maps show snow will fall for six days with some areas to see as much as 100cm. Maps from WXCharts.com show there will be continued snow fall in Cairngorms National Park in Scotland with some scattered snow fall across the rest of the country.

From midnight on February 22 to midnight on February 28, continuous snow will fall in the area, reaching highs of 100cm on Sunday February 22. On Tuesday February 24, at midnight, the snow is shown to still be present in Cairngorms National Park with other areas of the UK likely to see rain. Weather maps show a large weather front stretching from Bristol to Middlesbrough.

By Friday February 27 at 12 noon, snowfall will be more widespread, covering the North and Midlands in England.

As for Wales, a huge stretch is covered by purple on the maps, including Mid-Wales, North Wales and South Wales. Over in Northern Ireland, few areas will avoid the snow.

Maps show chilly temperatures will make their way across the UK with lows of -5C in Scotland. The warmest areas will be in Cornwall and Devon with highs of 7C.

A Met Office forecast says: “Showers or longer spells of rain, as well as occasional strong winds, are most likely at first as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK.

“Some heavy rain is likely in places, with some snow probable at times, mainly on high ground in the north.

“Temperatures varying from around, or a little above, average especially in the south to cold at times, mainly in the north.

“Although unsettled weather is likely to dominate at first, there will be some drier interludes between weather systems.

“These drier interludes will become increasingly likely and perhaps more prolonged through the period.”

The Met Office often warns that predicting snow more than a few days in advance is difficult.

It said: “In many temperate countries such as the UK, a small amount of snow can cause all sorts of disruption.

“But it can also be very challenging to predict. There are lots of factors involved in determining whether rain or snow will be falling from the sky, such as elevation, distance from the coast and precipitation intensity”.
