Death in Paradise star Ben Miller has teased that he could be returning to the beloved BBC crime drama following the 15th anniversary celebration. In 2010, the 59-year-old actor jetted out to Guadeloupe to film the first series of the detective drama. There, he portrayed Detective Inspector Richard Poole, a grumpy London detective who transferred to the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

But at the end of the second series, his character was dramatically murdered when he attended a small reunion with old university friends at the beachfront villa. But that won’t stop the star from returning to the show in an expectedly sensational form.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the dad-of-three, who is an ambassador for Read It Forward – a charity drive organised by Bookshop.org - teased that he would love to return to the show for the next anniversary celebration.

He told us: “I’d love to come back, but my character gets murdered in the show. They would have to be in a flashback or in a dream, but I have done one.” Despite this minor setback, the actor confessed that this wouldn’t be enough to stop him from returning from the dead.

Explaining that this wouldn’t be the first time his character has returned from beyond the grave, he recalled: “I did go back for the 100th episode. I played my character in a flashback scene with DS Camille Bordey (played by Sara Martins) on the anniversary episode, and that was brilliant; it was great fun.

“So, of course, I would love to go back. Maybe Richard could have a twin brother that we don’t know about; you never know. Listen, if anyone can think of how to do it, it’s Tony Jordan.”

But this isn’t the only TV reunion the actor is set to take part in this year. The Hollywood star revealed that he will be taking a break from serious dramas for a brand-new role on a beloved BBC quiz show.

Starring alongside host Alexander Armstrong, this will be the first time the pair will reunite on screen since 2010. The pair formed the renowned British comedy duo Armstrong and Miller back in the 1990s, regularly leaving fans in stitches with their sketch shows.

They reunited on screen once between 2007 and 2010 with The Armstrong & Miller Show, which went on to scoop up a BAFTA the following year. Sharing his excitement about his new role on Pointless, he gushed: “I’m gonna be on Pointless by the way, and I think it might be on quite soon.

"I went and recorded six or seven shows, so there’ll be a little run of shows where I'm doing the sort of Richard Osman gig. We recorded it last Autumn, and I think filling his shoes will be quite a task.”

It comes as the established author of the Diary of a Wicked Witch (out now) teamed up with former Waterstones Children's Laureate Joseph Coelho, and YA novellist Gill Sims for the charity drive to inspire a love of reading in the next generation.

The money raised from the drive will go towards BookTrust and Scottish BookTrust to support children from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Speaking about the drive, he gushed: "I'm delighted to be teaming up with Bookshop.org, whose mission to help local bookshops thrive online is something I wholeheartedly believe in.

"And what better time to support such a brilliant drive than the National Year of Reading just upon us?" For more information, visit their website at www.bookshop.org.
