Coronation Street legend Phillip Lowrie died at the age of 88 last year. The actor is best remembered for his long stint playing Dennis Tanner in the ITV soap. He was one of the original cast members when the show began in 1960. He would later retun to Weatherfield to continue his romance with Rita decades later.

He was just 24 years old when he made his debut as the charismatic rebel on the programme and went on to become a firm staple on the show.

The actor, who never married, left his entire fortune to pals and charity, the Actors’ Trust after his death last April.

High Court records show the TV star left £797,114, reduced to £790,022 after debts and costs were settled. His will gave around £750,000 of his cash to the Actors' Trust. The charity supports those in TV, film or theatre, who struggle to find work.

Phillip also gifted his flat and £10,000 cash donation to his agent, Mario Renzullo, the Sun reports. He also gifted £19,000 to friends and relatives, including his goddaughter and cousins.

In his will, the actor asked to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in a garden, with the strict instruction that any service “should not be a religious ceremony”.

He made his debuted as the son of Elsie and Arnold Tanner - a teenage tearaway who had just been released from prison for theft.

His character became known as a rebellious ladies’ man.

After a decades long career on television and on stage, his agent announced Phillip's death in a statement to ITV News last year.

His statement read: "My client and very dear friend, Philip Lowrie, the beloved actor renowned for his role as Dennis Tanner on Coronation Street, passed away yesterday at 88. His death marks the end of an era for the world’s longest-running soap, where he became a cornerstone of its storytelling."

The Cheshire born star appeared in 673 episodes of the soap over the years, with his last appearance being in 2014. He was also known for roles in everything from Rules of Engagement to Casualty, and appeared alongside Victoria Wood for episodes of her sketch show.
