Just days after Catherine O'Hara's tragic death aged 71, it has now been revealed that the Hollywood legend died after a serious bout of illness. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office revealed that the actress's immediate cause of death is listed as pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer as the underlying cause. The star, who is best known for her roles in Schitt's Creek and Home Alone, sparked worldwide heartbreak after she died on Friday, January 30, as fans and her celebrity co-stars took to social media with emotional tributes.
According to the NHS, Pulmonary Embolism is a life-threatening health issue and occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the lungs. It often happens when a part of the blood clot dislodges from your leg and travels to your lungs, causing a blockage. The symptoms can include sudden difficulty breathing, chest pain that's worse when you breathe in, and coughing up blood. As well as pain, redness and swelling in one of your legs, usually the calf.
