Political broadcaster Isabel Oakeshott tore Keir Starmer apart during her appearance on Jeremy Kyle's TalkTV show this morning (Monday, February 9), detailing when she believes the Prime Minister will be ousted as he fights for his political future following his chief of staff's resignation. Starmer's right-hand man, Morgan McSweeney, stepped down from his position on Sunday over the Lord Peter Mandelson scandal, taking "full responsibility" for advising Starmer to appoint the peer as US Ambassador. The UK Leader has been criticised for giving Mandelson the role despite being aware of his dealings with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein following the American's conviction for child sex offences.
Oakeshott issued a damning verdict on Starmer's future during her interview with Kyle, as the Intelligence and Security Committee are looking into the appointment of Mandelson.
She told TalkTV viewers: "They are saying, 'Please can we wait until this report comes out from the Intelligence and Security Committee, that's going to take weeks'. That's otherwise known as playing for time.
"Finally, the most lame argument that I have seen and heard in the last 24 hours is that Keir Starmer cannot resign now because of the international situation. Because of Ukraine, because of Iran, and probably because of Chagos as well. I mean, come on, guys, there are always wars everywhere, so that's not going to fly."
The journalist concluded: "I don't think he [Starmer] can last even a matter of days."
Starmer is set to address his Labour ministers at a private meeting in Westminster this evening.
Oakeshott's comments sparked a debate on X, as one TalkTV viewer remarked: "I don't want Starmer to go now. Whoever takes over will be far worse than him if that were possible."
Another said: "The replacement will be even worse. We need an election." Meanwhile, a third said: "Heard it all before. He'll find some excuse and hope people will forget." However, another person branded the political journalist "clueless".
TalkTV airs daily on Sky, Freeview and YouTube.
