A major UK shoe retailer with more than 160 stores nationwide has confirmed that it will close one of its stores on Sunday, February 8.

Pavers, known for its comfortable footwear, is shutting down its Plymouth city centre branch tomorrow, leaving customers devastated.

It comes amid financial challenges and pressures across the industry, with several companies forced to close stores and lay off staff. However, the reason for Pavers' closing this particular store has not been disclosed.

A sign in the window of the branch reads: "Sorry, this store is closing down. But don't worry, this isn't goodbye. Your nearest store is: Plymouth, The Barbican."

The store is also holding a huge "everything must go sale" with signs that read "take a further 50% off stock", though shoppers have just a few hours to make the most out of it.

Pavers was founded by Catherine Paver in her home in York. Since its establishment in 1971, the retailer has opened numerous stores across the UK, offering a wide range of comfortable footwear for men and women, including shoes, slippers, boots, trainers, and sandals.

The brand also sells bags and accessories, such as hats, gloves, scarves and socks.

Another shopper told Plymouth Live: "Another casualty of online shopping! It’s one of my favourite shops.

"I buy all my boots from Pavers, they’re the best. Such a shame. Thank goodness for the Barbican branch."

A spokesperson for Pavers told PlymouthLive: "We don't give formal comments on store closures, however I can confirm that the Plymouth Barbican store is remaining open."

It has not been disclosed whether any job losses will result from the closures.
