Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor "considered abdicating" his royal role after comments made by Queen Elizabeth II about his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, newly released documents suggest.
The former Duke of York was left "sad and frustrated" and "feeling like a zoo animal" after his mother told the two princesses to "get a job", according to an email exchange between convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and an unknown individual called "Melanie" in May 2011.
Beatrice and Eugenie, who are not official working royals, lost their taxpayer-funded security in 2011, reportedly due to cost concerns.
In the email, released as part of a tranche of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) last week, "Melanie" writes: "Stuff's bad for A's girls. Got royal protection taken away. Queen said np [sic] royal list, get a job. S has a specific question for you. A is sad and frustrated. Considering abdication but he's like a zoo animal, no way esp now for him to thrive."
Andrew, who denies any wrongdoing, was stripped of his titles by the King last year after the posthumous publication of a book by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was trafficked by Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell to sleep with the former prince when she was 17.
