Jannik Sinner extended a remarkable run at ATP Masters 1000 events by setting a new record for consecutive sets won, dispatching Corentin Moutet at the Miami Open.
The Italian, world number two and a four-time Grand Slam champion, notched his 25th and 26th straight sets with a 6-1 6-4 victory in 71 minutes.
He had matched Novak Djokovic's previous mark of 24 sets in his opening match against Damir Dzumhur.
Sinner was in complete control from the outset, capturing 19 of the opening 26 points and wrapping up the first set in just 22 minutes.
He broke Moutet in the fifth game of the second set and then served out the match without trouble.
After the win Sinner said he was pleased with his form and mindful of keeping focus as the tournament progresses.
His recent run includes titles at Indian Wells earlier this month and Paris last November, and he has not dropped a set across those back-to-back Masters victories.
Next up for Sinner is American Alex Michelsen in the last 16 as he chases the rare "Sunshine Double" — winning Indian Wells and Miami in the same year — a feat last achieved by Roger Federer in 2017.
In other Miami action, former world number one Daniil Medvedev was upset by Francisco Cerundolo, who prevailed 6-0 4-6 7-5 in the last 32.
The match featured odd moments when umpire Mohamed Lahyani's elevated chair became briefly entangled with the overhead "spider cam," prompting staff to secure the equipment while play paused.
Cerundolo described the victory as a tough, hard-fought contest and said he was glad to come through in his first meeting with Medvedev.
