Fire crews have rushed to the scene of a wildfire in Calshot in Hampshire. Emergency responders from five different areas are currently fighting the blaze in a field after being alerted to it just before 7pm on Friday. They are using multiple water jets to tackle to blaze, spanning an area of approximately 400m by 80m.

Witness Louise Davies told the Daily Echo: "It’s getting worse, we can see it spreading across the heath land. I can see a few more fire engines but it’s spreading so quickly. I can at least six, maybe seven fire crews' flashing lights. The wind is pushing it inland. It's definitely spreading across the marsh."

She added that the fire appeared to be moving "inland".

Another witness told the outlet that the cloud of smoke "keeps getting bigger" though "more firefighters" are "arriving" at the scene.

The Echo, citing eye witness accounts, said helicopters had arrived on the scene shortly before 8:30pm.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Hardley, Hythe, Beaulieu, Eastleigh and Ringwood are currently in attendance at a fire in a field in Calshot.

"Multiple calls have come into the control room to report the fire, with the initial call coming in at just before 7pm.

"Firefighters are using a main jet and two hose reels to tackle the fire which is estimated to be affecting an area of gorse and standing crop of around 400m x 80m."
