A manhunt has been launched for a suspected thief who allegedly nicked £3000 in cash, sparking a major police operation and a public warning to steer clear of the alleged burglar - a black-haired bloke named Johnny Cash.

Cash is believed to have committed the theft last year at a residence in Alton, East Hampshire. The 35-year-old is from nearby Farnborough, but police believe he could have crossed county lines into parts of Surrey.

Hampshire Police are urgently seeking information about the alleged burglar's whereabouts, issuing the appeal just over a year after the incident took place.

In addition to his black hair, Cash, a Hampshire native, was described by officers as having hazel eyes and standing at 5ft9ins tall.

The public has also been warned that any attempts to harbour the wanted man, Johnny Cash, could be seen as a criminal offence and result in arrest.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary stated: "We are issuing an appeal as part of our ongoing efforts to locate wanted man Johnny Cash. The 35-year-old from Farnborough has recently been identified as someone we would like to speak to in connection to a burglary which happened in April last year.

"On 29 April 2024, over £3,000 cash was stolen from an address in Victoria Road East, Alton.

"He is described as a white male of medium build approximately 5ft 9in tall with black hair and hazel coloured eyes. It is believed he may be in the area of Farnborough or over the border in nearby areas of Surrey.

"We would like to remind people that anyone found to be harbouring Johnny to deliberately obstruct our attempts to locate him may be committing an offence and be liable for arrest themselves.

"If you have seen him, or have information regarding his whereabouts, please do not approach him and instead contact police on 101, quoting 44240178936."
