According to experts, the way you eat your ice cream could be a window into your personality. Psychologist Jo Hemmings suggests that your approach to eating the popular summer treat might hint at whether you're a daring or cautious individual.

A study commissioned by Nuii ice cream involving 2,000 adults who enjoy ice cream revealed that 63% prefer to lick their ice cream, while 39% boldly bite straight into it, so which one are you?

Henry Craven, from Nuii, commented: "We all know that ice cream is a favourite treat for many of us but discovering the way the nation eats theirs has caused quite a debate."

A recent video featuring Brand Ambassador and actor Jason Momoa, sparked an animated discussion when it was reveals that he bites straight into his ice cream.

"The reaction inspired us to delve deeper into what your ice cream-eating style might say about your personality," Henry added. Along with the survey, the brand also took to the streets to gather public opinion on the matter. So what do your ice cream eating habits say about you?

Behavioural psychologist, Jo, suggests that those who dare to bite into their ice cream are more 'fearless', 'confident' and 'impulsive', with the risk of brain freeze not deterring them. And it seems the public are in agreement with 31% describing ice cream biters as 'impulsive', 29% described them as 'confident' and another 26% said they were 'fearless'.

On the other hand, those who prefer to savour their treat by licking it are seen as 'methodical' and 'relaxed', according to Jo. They demonstrate patience and a desire to enjoy every moment, this could also hint at them being romantic individuals.

Lastly, those who tend to nibble away at their ice cream are often perceived as more 'cautious', 'gentle' and 'thoughtful', although it's suggested they can also be controlling.

Hemmings elaborated: "The ice cream lover's psyche revolves around pleasure seeking and nostalgia. They will have a sweet tooth, and ice cream is one of the key comfort foods that may help them regulate their emotions.

"They are probably playful, imaginative, and get excited about all celebrations – from kids' birthday parties to Easter and Christmas. They don't see ice cream as something just to be eaten in the summer." Interestingly, two thirds confessed they love eating ice cream regardless of the weather outside.

Jo also pointed out that the speed at which you eat your ice cream can reveal much about your personality. A third confess they often devour their ice cream too quickly. On this note, Jo commented these people are: "likely to be high-energy, impulsive, enthusiastic and impatient. They want that dopamine hit as fast as possible."

She added: "They may be restless and a bit edgy at times, using fast eating to soothe themselves," adding, "The slow-savourer is highly intentional and patient. They focus on the full sensory experience of eating ice cream – the texture, the flavour, the smell, the cold comfort."

Henry Craven at Nuii ice cream added: "I'm sure some of the traits both Jo and the research link to ring home for some fans of these frozen treats. Regardless of how you eat yours, it's all about enjoyment."
