James Middleton has spoken about the challenges his sister's cancer diagnosis brought for the wider family. The Princess of Wales, 43, was diagnosed with cancer last year and is now in remission, easing herself back into public duties.

But speaking on the impact the diagnosis had on the Middleton family, Kate's younger brother, 38, has told the Times: "For her and her family it was a challenging time, and I know for us and our bigger family it was a challenging time, but I think it’s about communication and it's about offering support and help where you can.

"Being there for someone is such an important part, and it doesn't necessarily have to be on your terms and it shouldn't be on your terms."

Over the years, James has been very outspoken about his mental health, having been diagnosed with clinical depression, ADD and dyslexia.

In his bestselling memoir, Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, the father-of-one opens up about how his cocker spaniel Ella helped him through some of his darkest times.

Speaking to the Times, he also says that the Prince and Princess of Wales's mental health campaign Heads Together also helped him to seek him when he was feeling suicidal.

James said: “I was aware of what they were doing. It was sort of the general message of, you know, it’s OK to not be OK.”
