New weather maps have revealed rainy conditions could blast into Britain later this month. The maps generated by WXcharts using metdesk data show the nation being swept by showers coming in from the Atlantic, stretching 640 miles from Scotland right down to the southwest of England.
The wet conditions predicted to come on Saturday, May 17, will only see a few areas such as London and Southampton escape the "rain bomb" conditions. Northern England and the West Midlands will recieve significant amounts of wet weather, maps suggest. However, rainfall will be heaviest in the Scottish Higlands with the accumlated precipation expected to hit as much as 37mm.
The southeast, similarly to the Scottish Highlands will see heavier rainfall of up to 23mm accumulated. However, no region is expected be impacted by rainfall that exceeds 4mm per hour which the Met Office defines as heavy rainfall.
The Met Office forecaster's long-range Forecast for Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 18, notes a prediction of rainy weather, but is not expecting it to be "heavy". Weather experts are also prediction chilly conditions at night as we head towards the middle of May.
It states: "High pressures will be dominant across the UK. This will bring predominantly fine and dry weather for the majority of places. A few light showers are possible at times, but heavy rainfall is not expected. Temperatures are likely to be slightly above normal for the time of year, although there is a chance of some cold nights."
However, before Brits dig out their wellies and try brave the rain Saturday, most will get to enjoy "largely dry" weather this week, with a few sunny spells.

Dry for most with sunny spells, but cloudier in northern Scotland and parts of southeast England, with scattered showers. Light winds for most, but brisk winds in the southeast.
High pressure will dominate, bringing dry weather for most and sunny spells. However, skies will be cloudier at times in the south with drizzly showers, particularly in the southeast.
