Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz were conspicuously absent from David Beckham's star-studded Kensington party on Saturday, despite flying into London from LA last week. They also missed out on family festivities in France on Friday and the grand celebration at the Beckhams' £10million Cotswolds estate on Wednesday. Brooklyn's silence on social media regarding his father's birthday and his mother's 51st birthday two weeks prior seems to speak volumes.
At the core of the rift is said to be Nicola's strained relationship with her in-laws, which has reportedly led Brooklyn to cut off communication with his family. This estrangement follows reports that Brooklyn is no longer speaking to his younger brother Romeo after he started seeing Brooklyn's ex, Kim Turnbull. A source disclosed to the Mail on Sunday that the couple's absence on Saturday was "all about Nicola". They revealed: "Weeks ago Brooklyn told them he would be there and they were expecting Nicola. Now David and Victoria have no idea what is going on. The French trip was to be the really special family time away but they didn't go. Then, after days of leaving his parents on tenterhooks, he and Nicola didn't go to Core either."
The tension between Nicola and Victoria is reportedly intense. Since Nicola and Brooklyn got together in October 2019, the atmosphere has changed, and relations between Brooklyn and his parents have "not been the same", reports the Mirror.
Tensions reportedly reached a peak during the wedding preparations for Brooklyn and Nicola. Victoria Beckham is said to have struggled with not being at the helm of the planning process, as Nicola's family, led by billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, took charge.
The lavish £3 million nuptials were hosted at the Peltz's £76 million Miami beachfront estate, complete with three grand marquees for the star-studded guests, featuring a dance floor, catering space, and more. It was rumoured that Victoria had hoped for a venue closer to home.
An insider revealed to new! magazine: "Victoria likes to take control of things but this wedding was completely organised by Nicola's family. She had to take a back seat, which she found a bit difficult. But she understood and just wanted them to have the best day."
On the wedding day itself, it was alleged that Nicola "stormed off" from her own reception after an incident where Victoria "stole" her first dance, leaving Nicola "crying her eyes out".
According to a source speaking to the Daily Mail, Nicola was devastated when her planned first dance to 'You Sang To Me' by Marc Anthony, who was to perform live, was changed "at the request of Victoria."
The singer's speech was later described as "gushing." An insider revealed: "It was totally just an ode to Victoria and how awesome she is."
According to a source, Marc, who allegedly performed at the wedding, had asked the couple to choose a song for him to dedicate to them. The couple's favourite, 'You Sang to Me', was their selection.
The same source claimed that the bride exited the room under the impression that Marc was about to introduce the newlyweds for a special dance to their chosen love song.
However, the source alleged: "But without any warning and at the request of Victoria, Marc switched it to a mother-son dance using the same song".
During the ceremony, it was observed that Nicola chose to wear a couture Valentino dress, despite initial plans for her to don a custom-made dress designed by Victoria.
Addressing the reported feud at the time, Nicola expressed that it "hurts [her] feelings" but maintained that David and Victoria Beckham are "great in-laws".
However, during an interview with Grazia USA, she seemed to suggest that there might have been some tension surrounding the wedding dress situation.
"Well, I was planning on wearing Victoria's wedding dress," she revealed. "I was truly so excited to be able to wear a design that my future mother-in-law created. We connected to start designing the dress, and then a few days went by and I didn't hear anything. Victoria called my mom and said her atelier couldn't make it.
"So, I spoke to my mom and Leslie [Nicola's close friend and stylist, stylist Leslie Fremar], and I was like, 'Well, unfortunately, this can't happen, so what's the next step?'"
Addressing the alleged feud further, Nicola stated: "When I read things that say [things like] I was never planning on wearing a [Victoria Beckham] dress or things like that, it does hurt my feelings. I try not to let it, but it's just not the truth. It's just a bit of a bummer when you're like, 'Oh, people think that,' but it's just not true."
Last month, Victoria seemed to send a subtle message to her daughter-in-law Nicola by donning a custom corset she had designed for Nicola. She wore the stunning plunging piece, originally intended for Nicola, to celebrate her 51st birthday.
Nicola previously showcased the corset during the debut of her film Lola last year and even utilised an April 2024 flashback photo opportunity with Victoria to commemorate her 50th birthday. She affectionately captioned the tribute, "Happy Birthday to my beautiful MIL."
Nonetheless, in an unusual twist this week, Nicola and Brooklyn, 26, omitted acknowledging Victoria's birthday celebrations, thereby intensifying the rumours about a rift within their family.
Though conjectures posited the feud's basis as surrounding Romeo's girlfriend, an insider revealed to the Mail: "This is nothing to do with Kim and is all about Nicola,' said a friend. "All David and Victoria want is their son back – and they will be there to welcome him any time."
