Lady Gaga has once again taken centre stage in the world of pop culture following the debut of her scintillating new album 'Mayhem'.

It is accompanied by the much-hyped Mayhem Ball tour, leaving many fans battling it out for tickets. Her latest hits like 'Abracadabra,' 'Disease,' and 'Garden of Eden' have the Little Monsters - her dedicated fan base - hooked on the addictive new tunes she's dished out.

Her performance at Coachella was so phenomenal that attendees half-jokingly rebranded the festival 'Gagachella' in her honour.

But despite all the hype, there is information that people are only just learning about the chart-topping singer.

One of the most-asked questions is why she went from her birth name of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta to the quirky alter-ego.

The tale of her moniker's origin is shrouded in some mystery – but her music producer Rob Fusari claims he had something to do with it.

He named her 'Gaga' because she evoked memories of the 1984 Queen hit 'Radio Gaga', which accidently got transformed into 'Lady Gaga' due to an autocorrect mistake while texting.

She embraced her stage name with complete vigour, and in a revealing 2010 interview, remarked, "So I said, 'What about Lady Gaga?' because Gaga is sort of crazy and Lady has such connotations."

So why ditch her birth name? In a previous interview, Gaga spoke about how she used to struggle around her peers.

She told Rolling Stone: "I used to get made fun of for being either too provocative or too eccentric, so I started to tone it down. I didn't fit in, and I felt like a freak."

But once she started embracing her alter-ego of Lady Gaga, she was finally able to be herself. She candidly shared: "I've always been Gaga... I suppressed all those eccentricities about myself so I could fit in. Once I was free, I was able to be myself".

Gaga has sold over 170 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling musicians of all time. She's also won 14 Grammy Awards.

Her debut album, The Fame (2008), and its re-issue, The Fame Monster (2009), launched her into international superstardom with hits like “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Bad Romance,” and “Alejandro."

Gaga has achieved multiple No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, such as “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Shallow,” and “Rain on Me.” She is the first female artist to have four singles surpass one billion streams each on Spotify.

Being herself has paid off!
