Mel B celebrated her and Eddie Murphy’s son, Angel Iris Murphy Brown’s 18th birthday earlier this month after sharing a rare snapshot of her family spending some quality time together. Angel, who uses he/him pronouns and identifys as male, was pictured as a child alongside some selfies with his famous mum in a sweet Instagram carousel. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ANGEL !!!,” Mel B, 49, wrote to her 1.7million followers on April 5. “I cannot believe youre 18 You are so special and so bright and so talented!! I couldnt be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are but youll forever be my babyyyy I hope you keep chasing yor dreams and be kind to everyone around you like you always have been my Angel.” (Sic)
In one photo, Angel could be seen smiling on the set of America’s Got Talent with his arm around Scary Spice’s shoulder. Modern Family actor and fellow AGT judge Sofía Vergara was also in the snap. Just days before honouring Angel’s milestone moment, the singer uploaded another set of photographs to Instagram. This time, the image featured her son and his sisters, Phoenix Chi Gulzar, 26, and Madison Brown Belafonte, 13. “All my baby’s,” she typed, adding a string of hearts to the picture. Mel B—whose real name is Melanie Brown—shares her eldest child with Dutch dancer Jimmy Gulzar, 49, and Madison with film producer Stephen Belafonte, 49.
In 2007, she welcomed Angel into the world following her brief relationship with Shrek star Eddie, 64.
The pair reportedly met at a dinner party in Beverly Hills. However, after just nine months, the couple parted ways.
Mel B was six months pregnant at the time of the split and later hit Eddie with a paternity suit after he refused to believe Angel was his child.
After a DNA test ruled that the Beverly Hills Cop favourite was Angel’s father, a statement was released acknowledging his duty as a parent.
"Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of ANY sort," the 2007 statement read. "He acknowledges paternity of the child Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy.”
Last April, Mel B lifted the lid on why her fling with Eddie was probably never going to go the distance.
“You know, he's Eddie Murphy. And I'm like, 'Well, I'm Mel B!’
"If something doesn't feel right, if it isn't equal, then what's the point? Yes, Eddie Murphy's a massive star. In my eyes — Spice Girls — so am I. I have my own house, my own car, my own credit card. I don't need to fall in line and be Pretty Woman, because I have my own life,” she explained.
"He almost wanted to just go like that. But I have a career. I'm not just going to give that up for love... to be a housewife. There's nothing wrong with being a housewife.”
Mel B also discussed her relationship with the Hollywood icon in her 2018 memoir, Brutally Honest. She claimed that Eddie had made her “happier than any man” she’d ever met.
