The UK-based dining spot, Steak of the Art, is set to permanently shut its branches as it plunges into administration. Known for specialising in steak, seafood, and a variety of meat offerings such as lamb and game, the unique combination steakhouse and art gallery run by Groupco Ltd has seen its Bristol and Cardiff locations draw in eager diners until facing recent challenges.
Companies House documents reveal that Groupco, trading under Steak of the Art, appointed administrators Rob Coad and Sam Talby from Undebt on 9 April 2025. Their distress was evident, with owed debts reaching £410,347 as of 31 March the previous year.
This development signals a definite closure for the recently shuttered Cardiff outlet, with strong indications that the Bristol establishment will follow suit, shutting down operations for the unforeseeable future. Neither the administrators nor the restaurant's representatives have provided comments when approached by Business Live, our sister news outlet.
More than a decade ago, former management consultant Stephen Bowen founded Steak of the Art, branding it as an "original, fun and entertaining" gastronomic endeavour. Patrons could enjoy a distinctly Moulin Rouge-esque private dining experience, capable of accommodating up to 20 people, without any hiring fee.
Furthermore, the business boasted an art gallery section, where local and national artists' works were displayed, coupled with a vibrant roster of live music, movie nights, and fashion show charity events.
The beloved Bristol restaurant, Steak of the Art, boasting a 4.2 out of five rating on TripAdvisor, is facing closure, much to the dismay of its regulars. The latest review, dated April 5, reflects the high esteem in which it's held.
Patrons have taken to social media to share their disappointment, with one saying: "Steak of the Art! ! Gutted!" Another expressed frustration, adding: "Such a shame, that's the place in Bristol we went."
A third voiced a broader concern: "Is there anything left open in the UK? Every day something else is closing."
TripAdvisor reviews glow with praise for the Bristol hotspot, with one customer recounting a memorable experience: "We threw a surprise birthday lunch at Steak of the Art. They were absolutely brilliant the whole way through. Really helpful with helping with the booking and sorting the private area for us. They also let us serve our own cake for dessert. The steak was absolutely delicious! And the roasts looked amazing, and I'm told were also delicious! I would highly recommend this place!"
With an average monthly staff count of 38, including directors, the future of these jobs remains uncertain amidst the administration process. It's unclear whether the company will be offered for sale.
