New UK weather maps forecast a blitz of cold conditions for the nation shortly after the hottest day of the year. The maps by NetWeather have turned blue, indicating the low temperatures that could spread across the UK on May 5, with the mercury dropping as low as -1C. The chilly conditions will hit from the early hours of the day into the latter part of the morning. While Brits will need to prepare for the cold blast, there are no signs of snow or rainy spells.
According to the map, the brutally low temperatures will affect regions across the UK, with areas in Scotland, Northern England, the Midlands, Wales and South West England all hitting the lowest of the forecasted temperatures.
The majority of the Scottish Highlands will see temperatures hit between 0 and -2C from 6:00am. The icy front which will stretch from the north of England into the Midlands will see cities including Manchester, and Birmingham hit zero.
Those in the south east, however have a bit of a lucky escape with the maps forecasting temperatures from 2C up to even 5C. Fortunately, as the day goes on, WXCharts maps, generated using metdesk data, show temperatures slightly increasing to between 1C and 3C across the nation.
On the bright side, the conditions will be "mainly dry" on May 5 and during the following days. The Met Office Long Range forecast for Monday, May 5 to Wednesday, May 14 states: "Mainly dry with spells of sunshine across the UK at the start of this period, and less warm than the previous week.
"A few showers are likely in places, mainly along coasts in the north and east. Little change is expected through the working week, with large amount of dry weather and sunny spells."
Today:
Cloud and showers, locally heavy, will move southeast across Scotland and Northern Ireland into northern England. Turning drier and brighter, but cooler behind. Hot sunshine elsewhere, with heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms through the afternoon.
Tonight:
Any showers or thunderstorms easing, though one or two showers perhaps persisiting in the south. Clearer and clolder in the northwest with a patchy frost, and a few coastal showers.
Friday:
Some showery rain across central areas at first, though dying out during the morning. Cooler with variable cloud and scattered showers in the north, whilst remaining warmer in the south.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Scattered showers in the south at times, and a few further north, though a lot of dry weather for many with some sunshine. Temperatures dropping, becoming rather cool in places.
