Kate spoke of the adorable tradition with Dame Mary Berry back in 2019. She said on A Berry Royal Christmas, "I love making the cake. It's become a bit of a tradition that I stay up 'til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing, and I make far too much. But I love it."
Kate also previously asked Great British Baking Show finalist Alice Fevronia for advice about icing - and also brought up her hobby of baking her children’s birthday cakes during the Big Tea Party for the 75th birthday of the National Health Service.
Speaking to PEOPLE in July 2023, Ms Fevronia said: "The princess was actually asking a lot of baking tips like, ‘How did you get the buttercream so smooth?
"She mentioned that she'd been up quite late on a couple of occasions trying to decorate the kids' birthday cakes."
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born at 8.34am at St Mary's Hospital in London. Later that day, the royal couple presented their newborn daughter to the world by appearing on the steps of the Lindo Wing.
Appearing overjoyed with the little bundle in her arms, Kate - who was, at the time, already mum to then-two-year-old Prince George - smiled and waved to the crowds as she posed for photographs with William.
In a Kensington Palace statement released after her birth, the couple thanked "everyone for their warm wishes" and praised hospital staff for "the care and treatment they have all received".
The couple later welcomed a little brother - named Prince Louis - for George and Charlotte. Their youngest child celebrated his seventh birthday last week.
