Gary Lineker, who’s been dumped from Match of the Day, has accused the BBC of a “ridiculous overreaction” to his Twitter row. Well there wasn’t just one row was there? There were numerous times he hit the headlines and embarrassed the BBC with his radical views, trashing its commitment to impartiality in the process. And now he’s been sacked, he’s whining, when it’s 100% his own fault. The BBC gave him plenty of chances to stop spouting his political views on social media but he arrogantly chose not to, believing he was too valuable to sack.

Remember how cocky he was when he stupidly compared the UK’s asylum policy to Nazi Germany in the ‘30’s? There was national uproar but instead of accepting he’d crossed a line, he dug his heels in and had the Corporation’s bosses – whose jobs were on the line because of his obduracy – running around him like idiots. As the highest paid person at the Beeb on an obscene £1.3million a year he probably believed he was invincible. Now he’s discovered he’s not. “But it suits me perfectly,” he said this week.

Yeah, Gary, keep telling yourself that. The fact is, no matter what else he does, nothing will ever give him the platform or the kudos the BBC and Match of the Day did and he’s lost it all because of his arrogance.

Well, he’ll have plenty of time to think about that as he hurtles into old age and the presenting jobs get fewer and less prestigious.

It won’t be long before people are saying, Gary Who?

Demi Moore really needs to stop dragging this poor Chihuahua to every star-studded event she goes to. This was at the Time 100 summit in New York. But little Pilaf has been spotted at the BAFTA’s , film festivals, high profile fashion shows, even Broadway shows.

Does Demi – a beautiful, successful Oscar nominated actress – not realise that taking this little scrap everywhere with her, one, isn’t good for the dog, and, two, makes her look sad and a bit batty? Is a Chihuahua really the most important relationship in her life, and what does it say about her that she has to have him with her at all times?

TOWIE’s Gemma Collins says she’s done with Essex and is off to the Cotswolds where she and boyfriend Rami will be the new Posh and Becks – which is never going to happen unless she loses ten stone and finds a £455million fortune.

But in an interview this week, she raved about the Cotswolds and said: “It suits me. It’s real class.”

Trouble is, she’s not, which became all too apparent when she was driving around the area looking for somewhere to eat and asked two local women where might be good. They pointed to a pub but warned her it was expensive. Collins took umbrage and sniped back: “Oh, that’s not a problem – I could buy this town ”

Of course she can’t. But that kind of comment is precisely why she’ll never fit in in the Cotswolds – or anywhere else. Because ramming how much money you’ve got in people’s faces isn’t just vulgar, classless and nasty, it also shows how pathetically insecure Collins is believing money will give her an entrée into any society. She’s about to find out it won’t.

Marianne Faithful left just £35,000 in her will. She had dated some of the world’s most famous musicians – the most famous being Mick Jagger. But when she was skint and on her uppers in later life, the person she says helped her most was Bono.

So where was Jagger who is swimming in millions with an estimated fortune of £375million? We all know his reputation as a skinflint, but could he not have spared a few quid to look after his great love in her old age?

Who are these ghouls falling over themselves to take a selfie with our dead Pope Francis? As a Catholic, it shocked me that even priests were getting in on the act. Where’s the reverence, the devotion, the respect that defined this great man’s life?

I’m sorry but there are some things that just shouldn’t be used for the delectation of social media bods and a dead pope is one of them. Pope Francis being the exquisitely kind human being he was would very probably have forgiven the irreverence – I can’t!

Rachel Reeves says she is confident of a new trade deal with Trump. Trump says he’s in no hurry to do one. Who do you believe? And let’s face it if Wrecker Reeves is negotiating the deal - it’s never happening.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Still on Reeves, a new poll says just 15% of people have a favourable opinion of her. WHAAAT??? Who are these people who think she’s doing a good job? It can only be extended family… and mad people!
