The son of Beatles icon George Harrison has taken the reins on development plans for his late father's estate. Grammy-winning musician Dhani Harrison, 46, is planning to construct a new property at Friar Park in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

The former residence of the Beatles star reportedly inspired his first solo album post the Fab Four split, titled All Things Must Pass. The album cover featured its lawn with the guitarist encircled by four gnomes - widely believed to symbolise each band member. Dhani's proposals involve modifications to previous consent granted to George's widow Olivia Harrison four years ago to erect a home on a disused tennis court at Friar Park.

These changes include alterations to the detailing, the addition of a plant room and adjustments to the windows and openings. Friar Park has been the Harrison family residence for many years and was also the site where George miraculously survived being stabbed 40 times by paranoid schizophrenic Michael Abram who believed he was the Antichrist. Public consultation on the latest proposals concluded this month with no objections received from the public. Harrison now faces a tense wait with a target decision date set by South Oxfordshire Council for the 1st May.

Harrison's representatives made a compelling case for the application, stating: "When granting permission for the dwelling, South Oxfordshire District Council evaluated the potential impact of the new dwelling and determined that the development is suitable for its location within the Grade II Listed grounds of the Grade. II listed Friar Park."

They further clarified, "The council concluded that the size, scale, and design of the permitted dwelling would not detract from the heritage assets, the Henley-on-Thames Conservation Area or Friar Park." Highlighting adjustments to the original blueprint, the statement also included: "This application addresses the alterations to the dwelling that differ from the approved plans."

Discussing the specifics, they noted, "The changes primarily concern the details of the windows and minor modifications to the building's elevations." Reassuringly, they added, "These alterations would not result in significant alterations that would have an adverse impact on the Henley-on-Thames Conservation Area, the Grade II listed Friar Park or the Grade II Listed Park and Garden."

Stressing the sensitive placing of the development, they stated, "The development's location remains unchanged, situated in an area of the grounds that provides minimal visibility and intervisibility with the existing dwelling and the value of the park and garden."

They also assured, "Furthermore, these changes do not affect the designed views within the setting of Friar Park." Four years ago, Olivia was granted planning permission for a charming new two-bedroom oak-framed house, to neatly sit on what was once a redundant tennis court. The property boasts a kitchen diner, lounge, utility and music room on the ground floor, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two additional rooms upstairs.

The proposed modifications now under review include the addition of three dragon finials, removal of a clock tower, replacement of square windows with round ones, and installation of French doors. The Victorian estate was reportedly on the brink of demolition when George purchased it in 1970 at the age of 27.

George and Olivia played a pivotal role in restoring the gardens to their former splendour, which are now considered among Britain's finest. The property made headlines when Abram broke in and stabbed George, inflicting severe injuries from which he was fortunate to recover.

Abram was subsequently sentenced to life in a secure hospital unit. The estate's lawn had previously graced the cover of the 1970 album, featuring popular hits such as My Sweet Lord and What Is Life. A decision on the proposed alterations by South Oxfordshire District Council is anticipated next month.
