The 67-year-beamed as he donned a smart suit and comfy trainers to receive the prestigious award with his mum, sister, and husband Elliott looking proudly on. The sighting of the illusive couple comes just days after the comedian and author revealed why the married pair are never pictured out together.
Opening up about his low-key lifestyle with husband Elliott Spencer, he revealed the couple's preference for privacy as they haven't been publicly seen together in six years. The 67-year-old actor and television host, who married 36-year-old Elliott in a quiet ceremony in Dereham, Norfolk, back in January 2015, have since kept their relationship away from the public eye. Aside from rare appearances at premieres or award ceremonies, Stephen and Elliott have steered clear of red carpets and high-profile events, last being spotted at a public event together six years prior.
Recently, Stephen offered a rare glimpse into his personal life during a conversation about his role as the host of the UK version of the legendary US game show Jeopardy! Having taken on the hosting duties since January last year, he is now at the helm of the show's second season. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Stephen divulged details about his domestic routine while explaining how he landed the Jeopardy! gig.
He recounted to Jonathan Ross: "I was on The Morning Show [in the US]. I had dinner with my American agent, he said, 'What do you do when you're not called on set?' and I said, 'My husband and I, we don't go to Hollywood parties much, we have an early supper, watch Jeopardy! go to bed.'" He went on to say: "He said, 'Do you watch it in the UK?' I said, 'We don't have it in the UK.' The conversation moved on, I thought no more of it. Two weeks later, he phones and says: 'ITV London is thrilled you're going to do Jeopardy!'"
Earlier this year, Stephen offered a rare glimpse into his personal life when he posted a throwback picture from his wedding day on social media, penning a heartfelt tribute to his spouse. His Instagram caption read: "Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I'm a lucky man."
Last year, Stephen pondered over his own mortality during a chat with Brave New World, explaining why he wouldn't want to live past 100. He stated: "Personally, I'm not particularly interested in longevity for myself. I'm interested, as I think most people are, in the idea of an old age that is as pain-free as possible and where there isn't too much cognitive loss.. But I am not someone who wants to live longer than the rest of my friends... If everybody my family and friends lived into their 120s, then maybe I'd be quite happy to pass 100. But as it is, I would hate to be that lonely Flying Dutchman figure so beloved of history... The survivor, all of whose dependents and acquaintances have since died. I would find that deeply upsetting."
