For those who are left wanting more when their cruise holiday comes to an end, a new concept may have the perfect solution. Newly launched Crescent Seas, founded by former Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings chairman Russell Galbut, offers passengers the chance to live aboard a ship, but at an eyewatering cost.

Crescent Seas is offering “floating homes” on its forthcoming fleet of cruise ships, the first of which is due to set sail next year. Following a refit of the Regent Seven Seas Navigator, 210 private residences will be available for passengers to embark on a global voyage, starting in December 2026. However, the lowest price for a residence on board starts at a staggering €570,000 (over £490,000).

As if that were not high enough, the most luxurious residences aboard Regent Seven Seas Navigator are available for an astonishing €8.8 million (£6.6 million). On top of this, residents must also purchase around €30,000 (£22,400) worth of annual food and beverage credits.

Crescent Seas, which only formed in March this year, has promised the height of luxury aboard its ships, including Michelin-inspired restaurants, “6-star” service by white-gloved butlers and Starlink-powered co-working spaces.

“As a developer, I know real estate has always been defined by location, location, location, as we say. With Crescent Seas, we’ve eliminated that limitation,” Galbut told The Telegraph.

“Now, your home isn’t bound to a single address – it moves with you, taking you to the world's most breathtaking destinations.”

Passengers will travel the world, calling at ports from Iceland to the Seychelles to Singapore, without ever having to move home. The ships will also stay in port for two to three days at a time, unlike normal cruise lines, which only allow passengers to explore for a few hours.

Crescent Seas has already confirmed three ships: Navigator, Insignia (a former Oceania Cruises vessel) set to relaunch in 2027, and a third, dubbed The Ocean, expected to be finished in 2032. Two more vessels are being sought for 2028 and 2029.

Insignia will also be given an over £37 million overhaul to offer 290 residences priced between £486,000 and £7.5 million. Every cabin will have cooking facilities available, but suites will boast full kitchens.

“Everything will be upgraded,” said Mr Galbut. “All the room furniture, every bathroom will be modernised. The ships are gorgeous today but we will make them brand new and modern. You’ll be on board in Alaska and your customers will think you’re in your office in Rome, New York or Tokyo.”

While large cruise companies continue to compete for the biggest ships, Crescent Seas will create a fleet of smaller vessels, Mr Galbut added.

“No one living on a ship wants to have 5,000 people in their community,” he said.
