Stunning river views, classic cobblestone streets, and amazing food - Porto in Portugal is a perfect summer destination for those looking for a European break.

The coastal city, which is known for its port wine production, is also a place where you can get a pint of beer for just 60p. Located at the Douro River estuary, Porto is Portugal’s second-largest city. Packed with Portuguese charm, the city blends well with historic and vibrant architecture. It experiences much-loved Mediterranean weather, which keeps in a perfect balance between hot and cold, dry and wet, sunny and overcast. In April, the maximum temperature goes up to 20C. One of the most famous attractions in Porto is the Ribeira District. Lined with colourful buildings, cafes, and street performers alongside the Duoro River, the area turns into a magical place as soon as the sun is out.

You can take a tour of the Duoro River to see the famous Dom Luís I Bridge. It is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the river Douro between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal.

Next to keep your eye on is Duoro Valley which is one of the most stunning wine regions in the world. Think rolling hills lined with terraced vineyards, scenic river views, charming little towns, and, of course, world-class port wine and table wines.

The city is also home to one of the most beautiful train stations in the world. São Bento Station is among some of the world's most appreciated for its aesthetics.

Inaugurated in 1916, the station's notable feature is its vestibule adorned with more than 20,000 tiles, covering a total area of 550 square meters.

These tiles, crafted in blue and white, intricately depict significant moments in Portugal's history and predate the station itself, with production starting in 1905.

Apart from mesmering views, you can enjoy the popular beer, Super Bock at just 60p a pint. Super Bock is a well-known Portuguese lager beer produced by the Super Bock Group in Porto.

Another person wrote on TripAdvisor forum: "After visiting Lisbon, we decided never to go back to Portugal. We then decided to make another attempt and try Porto.

"Just as well. What a difference! There are not many monuments to visit, but one could wander around for days without ever getting bored. Not to mention the fabulous eating and drinking places at very reasonable prices, the local wines, and, of course, the Port wine.

"The local people are extremely friendly and willing to help. The Citysightseeing Tour is highly recommended: its two routes give you a full taste of the town as they take you around the old town but also through the new town as well as along the Ocean.

"Excellent value for money. A three-day visit is the minimum recommended."
