A beloved high street shop has announced its closure following the launch of a huge sale. The gift shop thanked customers for their support and confirmed 20% off everything in a post on social media.

The Wallace Emporium has been operating in Lanark town centre, Scotland, for just two years. However, it has now announced its decision to close its doors for good in yet another blow for the high street. The shop said in a post on Facebook: "We're closing our doors. It's time to say goodbye... but not without a thank you!

"Enjoy 20% off everything in-store until we're sold out. Grab your favourites while you still can - once they're gone, they're gone!"

The Wallace Emporium is well-known for its range of Scottish-made products. It sells items such as Harris Tweed purses, Isle of Skye candles, and a variety of other fragrances.

A number of local people have reacted to the news of the closure on Facebook. Karen Templeton Calvert said: "Such a shame this little treasure trove is going to close. Being just off the high street and footfall in general being at an all-time low, I totally understand. Very best of luck for the future, whatever ventures/adventures you have."

Hazel Kay agreed: "So sad to hear this news, as Karen says it’s a little treasure trove of a shop. Bought many a Christmas or birthday gift here and sorry to see you go. All the best for the future."

Liz McIntosh added: "So sorry to see another good little shop and a premises closing its doors in the town." Jennifer Fisher commented: "So sad to be losing you - a great shop with great products."

It comes as a number of shops across the UK continue to struggle with increasing costs. Businesses are being hit with increased energy costs and rent, while the recent rise in employer National Insurance contributions has dealt a further blow to many retailers.

Major brands such as WHSmith, Aldi and Morrisons are among those that will close sites in 2025. Other businesses are being forced to review their stores and expansion plans due to cost increases.
